An adult bald eagle helped usher in 2013 on campus during the annual New Year’s Day Bird Count. Several observers spotted the bird as it made its way through the woods and open water below the dam at the Henry Ford Estate.
“It might just stick around for a while if the fishing remains good,” said Rick Simek, program supervisor and natural areas manager for the Environmental Interpretive Center.
Simek said to look for a large, bulky bird with a six-foot wingspan, massive beak, and white head and tail.
The bird has eluded photographers so far; if you snap a photo, be sure to send it our way.
