Emergency alert provider to change next month; testing takes place Jan. 24

The University of Michigan will change emergency alert providers on February 10. The university will terminate its contract with Everbridge and migrate to Blackboard Connect. This change includes all three campuses, including UM-Dearborn.

The migration to Blackboard Connect is expected to enhance message delivery times and allow for future system enhancements such as smart phone applications.

If you have registered to receive UM-Dearborn emergency alerts via text, you will receive a “welcome” message on Wednesday, January 22 or Thursday, January 23. It is important that you DO NOT reply “stop” to the message. If you do reply “stop” your text number will be removed from the system and you will not receive future emergency notifications. You may simply delete the message once you receive it. UM-Dearborn will participate in an all-campus test on Friday, January 24. The campus test will also include tests to registered email and phone numbers.

There may be additional testing of the system in February.

As a reminder, UM-Dearborn activates the emergency alert system in the event of a life-threatening campus emergency. This form of notification is the first form of notification in the event of an emergency.
