This year the faculty, staff and retirees Give from Within campaign focused on honoring those who’ve made a Dearborn difference.
“Whether you remembered a mentor who welcomed you to campus as a new employee or honored a colleague you can always count on, every gift is a meaningful gesture,” said Chancellor Daniel Little.
The results? The March giving numbers showed a 35 percent increase over last year.
Tribute gifts were given to a variety of funds and honored a variety of people. Some gifts went to named scholarships — like to that of the late Ed Bagale, former vice chancellor for government relations. Recent retiree and former SOAR program Director Susan Cushnier and Professor Emerita Elaine Clark were also honored with a gifts in their name. And other tributes went to celebrate dedicated current staff members, like the Mardigian Library’s Barbara Kriigel, who has worked at the university for nearly 30 years.
“I am heartened to hear tribute stories collected through the Faculty, Staff and Retiree campaign. Our faculty and staff have always been supportive of each other and these tributes are a testament to that,” Little said.
Also in March, the Women and Gender Studies Program celebrated its 40th anniversary and inspired giving from alumni and employees. The tickets for the recent Commission for Women’s Susan B. Anthony Awards dinner included a gift portion as well. The combined result from these celebrations contributed to the boost in giving over last year.
This fiscal year, University of Michigan-Dearborn’s faculty, staff and retirees have made a big impact on our campus. More than 200 faculty, staff and retirees gave $160,000 to 100 different UM-Dearborn funds of their choice.
Since the beginning of the Victors for UM-Dearborn campaign, nearly 500 members of the UM-Dearborn campus community have given close to $3 million to support our students and our campus.
“Giving to UM-Dearborn is a demonstration of your commitment, confidence and pride in our work. What we do, and what those before us have done, changes our students lives,” said Mardigian Library Director Elaine Logan, who is the faculty, staff and retiree giving co-chair.
If you haven’t already contributed, there’s still time to give and honor a colleague. You can make a gift to the Give from Within campaign through fiscal year end on June 30, 2017. Remember, every gift is valued and counted in our Victors for UM-Dearborn campaign.
